Looking for or needing a language immersion stay in Antwerp to learn Dutch ? Antwerp is a vibrant international metropolis. It's also one of the most important university cities in Flanders/ Belgium and a hub of Flemish culture. There are plenty of opportunities for sports, excursions, and other activities.
Places to visit during your stay: the Diamond Museum, the Rubens House, the Port of Antwerp, its famous zoo, the Cathedral of Our Lady, the Plantin-Moretus Museum… You will therefore have many opportunities to practice Dutch: at school, in town, with your host family, etc.
If your secondary school classes weren't enough, then take Dutch immersion courses and you'll be amazed at your own progress. Go for it!
Our partner school, named LABS, is a small, friendly language school where they do good work and provide personalized service. LABS is a official center for the CNaVT (Certificaat Nederlands als Vreemde Taal) of the “Nederlandse Taalunie”.
LABS is located in the university district in the city center , close to shops, cafes, and restaurants where students can buy food at affordable prices. It has a fully equipped kitchen for students, a library, and of course, Wi-Fi . One of the classrooms is wheelchair accessible (the class schedule will be adjusted to accommodate any student using a wheelchair).
From February 2026, the school will move to a modern co-working space close to its current location, a few minutes' walk from the De Meir shopping street.
Please also note the very small size of the school. There may only be 1 to 3 students in the entire school during your classes, except in August.
It's still possible to learn Dutch, stay with a host family, and explore Antwerp, but the "school experience" will certainly be different.
Schedules will vary each week, depending on teacher availability.
Languages & Travel recommends this school for a quality Dutch language stay .
Course intensity:
Intensive courses, private lessons, online courses, test preparation
Course type:
Student, Adult
age 18. Meals are not included (you will use the kitchen and do your own shopping) or you can choose half -board during the week and full-board on weekends , in a private or shared room (if you register together). There are no refunds for weekends spent away from the host family. Arrival is on Sunday afternoon or evening before classes and stays are until Saturday morning after classes. Bathrooms may be private or shared. Bed linens and towels are provided.
Of course, students have the option of doing their laundry at their host family's home (for stays longer than two weeks). All host families are located between 40 and 60 minutes from the school by train, bus, or tram . Staying with a host family is always a great way to put into practice what you've learned during your Dutch courses in Antwerp.
Given the lack of host families, 2 French-speaking students can be placed by the school in the same family.
It's possible to rent a private room in a student residence or a shared flat rather than staying with a host family. This is the ideal option if you want more independence and privacy.

Languages & Travel selected this school whose director, Charlotte Bauwens , is passionate about her job. She skillfully combines all the functions and regularly teaches classes herself.
It was during a visit to the school in June 2019 that we suggested she create a program combining Dutch courses in Antwerp with a job, based on our experience in this area (working holiday visa programs, jobs abroad, etc.), which she quickly developed. More information about this program can be found here .

"Hello Ms. Jonckers, Everything is going well, thank you! Sam has already made great progress 👍 It must be said that he had lost a lot of ground after his year in the USA. So this is a very good refresher to start his higher education. No issues to report regarding the residence. Everything is OK. Have a lovely day,"

"Yes, yes, my stay went well. It's a shame I couldn't stay longer; it would have been better to take more time to learn Dutch."

Hello Maelle, We apologize for not seeing your email sooner. Everything is going well, the accommodation is good, and Lydia is very kind. There's nothing to complain about, except that we don't get a Wi-Fi signal in our room and the shower water isn't very good. But if that's all, it's not a big deal. It's a great experience for us, but we are very tired at the end of the day. We've been told that's normal. We did the Wallangues test and will retake it at the end of the four weeks. Best regards,

"Dear Madam, Thank you for your email. Margot's stay is going very well, she is delighted. The classes and the school are meeting her expectations. Thank you very much. Best regards."

"Hi Maelle, I've been in Antwerp for a week now, and it's been a fantastic experience so far. The school is great and the classes are really effective. There are five of us, all French-speaking, but we only speak Dutch. My host family, or rather my "host father!", is also very nice and gives me my freedom while still being there for me. In short, nothing to complain about, it's a really great experience, and this is just the beginning. Thank you for everything,"
