Dutch lessons in Amsterdam ?
Amsterdam is one of those cities that appeals to both young and old, like London, Barcelona, and Berlin. And if, in addition, you can combine Dutch immersion courses with exploring the city, what could be better?
The options for learning Dutch in the Netherlands are quite limited, which is why Languages & Travel has added this destination to its offerings. Look no further, Languages & Travel is the only organization offering group Dutch courses in Amsterdam.
Course intensity:
Semi-intensive courses, Private lessons
Course type:
Student, Adult
17.5 hours per week in small groups of up to 7 participants. The school will conduct a preliminary assessment interview to determine your Dutch level and place you in the appropriate class. Levels A1-B1 are accepted. Participants come from diverse nationalities and are primarily expatriates or accompanying adults. There are also students, mainly registered through Languages & Travel. Classes run from 10:15 am to 2:15 pm.
You can take private lessons if you prefer individual lessons focused on your weaknesses or on a very specific subject (preparation for an exam, a competition, a presentation, etc.).
Accommodation options include room only (with use of the kitchen to prepare your own meals), bed and breakfast, or half-board (breakfast and dinner). For lunch, you'll find snack bars and small restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the school. Host families are located in Amsterdam and are easily accessible by public transport or bicycle, a journey of approximately 20 to 50 minutes. You will need to purchase a monthly travel pass (prices vary depending on the zone, similar to London). Staying with a host family is a great way to practice the vocabulary and grammar you've learned during your Dutch classes in Amsterdam.
Located 20 minutes by bike from the schoolThis is the The Social Hub (formerly The Student Hotel)Over 700 rooms and 50 nationalities permanently housed there. Metro/tram station right in front of the residence entrance + 24/7 bus stop. Rentals available from one day to two semesters (10 months), as well as by the week or month. Free Wi-Fi & internet, flat-screen TV and desk in your room, gas, electricity, and water included, 24-hour reception/secure entrance, lounges, communal kitchens (where you can cook for yourself), games room (table tennis and billiards), study room, fitness room, washing machines (€5 for a load + dryer + detergent). Undoubtedly one of the most modern student residences, ideal for accommodation during your Dutch courses in Amsterdam.
This student residence has its own restaurant where you can purchase a meal plan for a certain number of meals per week (5, 10, 20, or all meals). These meal plans are available for stays of at least one month. Bath towels (B) / hand towels (F) and bed linens are provided for stays of one week to one month, as well as kitchen equipment. For longer stays, these items are available for a fee (or you can bring your own sheets, towels, and cookware).
Room cleaning is included for stays of one week (every 3 days) to one month (weekly), and is charged for longer stays (€10). You can rent a bicycle through the residence for €7 per day, including theft insurance. Bicycles are included in the price of stays of one month or more (theft insurance: €9/month). Covered bicycle parking is included. The residence is very popular. Reservations are possible for visits from relatives and friends (price per night: from €55 to €95 depending on the room type).
Languages & Travel also recommends checking out hostelworld.com and student.com . You'll find many student residences .
You won't be able to resist the charms of Amsterdam : Dam Square, its canals, its typical narrow streets, its bell-shaped or staircase-shaped facades, its souvenir shops (cheeses of all sizes, plain or seasoned, clogs, flowers, bulbs…), its Bloemenmarkt (flower market), and of course its museums including the RijksMuseum , Madame Tussauds, Amsterdam Dungeon… its typical cafes… and I almost forgot, its bikes of all colors.
It's certain that you'll need several weeks to visit Amsterdam . So, rent a bike (or bring your own) or take a boat tour on the canals (the famous "Ronvaart"; there's even one that goes around the museums on the Hop On Hop Off principle – you get off at the stop corresponding to the museum that interests you, and then you get back on the boat en route to another museum and so on).
It's a terrible injustice to Amsterdam to try to summarize the city in so few lines. And we would need to talk at length about its cultural events, theaters, exhibitions, and so on. For that, simply pick up the magazine "UIT" or visit their website . For bike, walking, and boat tours of Amsterdam and its surroundings: www.amsterdamcycletours.com .
To learn almost everything about Amsterdam before you arrive, check out the following website and the pages in French (you can also visit the Dutch version to get a feel for… well, for Amsterdam's canals!). We also recommend purchasing the I amsterdam card , which offers free entry to museums, public transport, a canal cruise, and much more.
You certainly won't have enough time to see everything during your language stay in Amsterdam.
Courses start every 2 weeks for levels A0/A1, A1/A2, and A2/B1. Other levels available upon request.

There are few language stay options in the Netherlands. Apart from one school in Vught , a small provincial town near Belgium, where there are, in our opinion, far too many (only) French-speaking Belgians .
Since then, we have visited Amsterdam to tour schools. Therefore, we think you will much prefer Amsterdam , a vibrant university city where you will never be bored and you will easily find student jobs in the many shops, bars, and restaurants.
Tip : You can combine Dutch courses in Amsterdam with a company internship in Amsterdam .
Languages & Travel also offers private lessons with a teacher in Amsterdam if you prefer lessons with a focus on your specific weaknesses or wishes.
And also Dutch language courses in Antwerp .

"Oriane called me yesterday to say she arrived safely, that the room is very nice and quiet, as is the neighborhood, and that everything is going well at school and with Joke. She will probably rent a Swapfiets bike to get around... Thanks again for the emergency help on Sunday." And at the end of her stay: "Oriane is delighted with her stay and got along very well with Joke. Thank you for organizing everything." And a few weeks later: "Oriane confirms that she would like to stay at least two more weeks."

"Hello, yes, everything went well. I really like my teachers and I feel like my Dutch is going to improve a lot."

"Hello Pascal, I apologize for the late reply. I'm very happy with my stay; I learned a lot and I feel much more comfortable speaking Dutch! The classes at the school are really great! I also got along very well with Joke :) Thank you for organizing this trip! Sarah"

"Hello Pascal, Everything is going well. Sonia is very kind and she cooks well. The classes are also very good. The only negative point is the distance between the accommodation and the school. However, I have managed to find transport solutions where I don't waste too much time. Best regards, Amélie"
