Criteria you must meet to be able to register for an au pair stay in Canada

• You are between 18 and 30 years old .
• You have completed your secondary education .
• You love children and are willing to take care of them.
• You will need to provide a clean criminal record extract and a medical certificate stating that you are in good health.
• You will need to apply for an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization), the equivalent of a tourist visa in Canada, before your trip. The eTA allows you to stay in Canada for up to 6 months. If you have a Working Holiday Visa, that's also fine; you can then stay for a year, and the Working Holiday Visa includes the eTA. If you have a student visa, you are authorized to stay for the entire duration of your studies plus one month.
• You have an intermediate level of English (minimum B1). You will be asked to take an online English test to verify your level.
• You will take out good medical insurance covering, in particular, repatriation.
• You have an international driving permit (which you will obtain from the municipal administration of your residence by presenting your Belgian license; cost approximately €25) if the family requires that you know how to drive.

Registration

To be eligible to apply for the au pair program in Canada, you must, of course, meet all the participation requirements. To best organize your stay, we strongly advise you to prepare a complete application (we will provide you with a list of required documents) and to contact us several months (at least 2-3) before your intended departure date .

Visa 

To obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization ( eTA ), you must have a valid Belgian or European passport and then submit your application directly on the Canadian immigration website. Important: only use the official Canadian government website to submit your application. This step is mandatory to reside in Canada for the duration of your au pair stay. The maximum stay in Canada as a tourist is 6 months. If you have a student visa, you are authorized to stay for the entire duration of your studies plus one month. If you have a Working Holiday Visa, the maximum stay is one year.

Transportation

It is possible to join the Au Pair Canada program throughout the year . Classes begin every Monday (except holidays).

Price of your next au pair stay in Toronto, Canada

8 weeks (July and August): € 3999

These prices include:

• The number of weeks of English lessons indicated, at a rate of 20 lessons per week in our partner school
• The number of weeks indicated is accommodation with a host family, full board, and in a single room
• A certificate of participation in English courses will be issued at the end of your stay
• Activities are organized on Friday afternoons after classes (if and only if your agreed-upon schedule of tasks with the family allows it)
• Placement with a host family and the support provided by the school throughout your stay
• Airport pick-up and transfer arranged by your family.
• L&T registration and administrative fees

These prices do not include:

• Round -trip travel to Toronto (we can help you with the booking!)
• medical insurance ( we will provide you with information on a suitable insurance contract covering, in particular, private civil liability)
• cancellation insurance : 4% of the total
• The Canada Working Holiday Permit if you plan to stay and work after your demi-pair program and possible job assistance, more info here .
• IELTS test preparation courses (10 general English lessons + 10 IELTS test preparation lessons): € 100 / week .

Here's a great way to make your stay in Canada more affordable while ensuring maximum safety. Thanks to the support provided to the au pair family, you'll benefit from full-board accommodation in a private room. The advantage of the "demi-pair" arrangement is that the number of working hours is limited to 20 hours per week (no risk of exploitation like in a traditional au pair stay), and socially, you won't be limited to contact with the au pair family but will also meet other young people at the school where you'll be taking English classes. Tip : Since this involves taking care of children, you absolutely must enjoy it and demonstrate this through some experience such as babysitting, working at a playground, scout camp, summer camp, or other activities. If childcare isn't your thing, don't pursue this path; instead, choose another stay in Canada (English courses in Vancouver or Toronto , a Working Holiday Visa ). If you've managed to obtain a Working Holiday Visa, that's ideal; after your au pair stay, you'll have several months left to travel, work, and explore Canada.
