How to learn a language easily?

Learning a language is clearly not easy. It requires motivation, dedication, and above all, the ability to devote time to it. In addition, it requires immersing oneself in a real-world environment and gaining a certain level of self-confidence to express oneself. All of these elements are part of the learning process. The final solution: start practicing from a very young age.

You've decided to learn a new language! To make things easier, here are 3 tips:

1) Use sentences that are easy to modify

Memorizing certain reusable phrases/formulas by changing the verb or noun allows you to build a foundation of new terms. It's a good way to enrich your vocabulary while relying on a base of existing knowledge.

2) Memorize

It is essential to be able to memorize the grammar and vocabulary of the language you wish to learn. Since some rules cannot be explained, memorization is necessary. This requires time and dedication. Author Timothy Ferriss, a language learning expert, explains this in his book “How to learn any language in 3 months”. Here are some methods for learning to memorize

3) Speak, speak, and speak the language some more

Practice makes it easier to memorize and gain confidence. Mistakes disappear as you speak the language. Immersing yourself in an environment that encourages interaction is an undeniable advantage.

One of the most common practices among adults is to mimic their native language when deciding to learn a new one. This is actually a natural reflex of the brain. That's why it's strongly advised to learn to speak different languages from a young age (if one wishes).

Indeed, the language acquisition process unfolds in several stages: first through sounds, then rhythms, followed by the construction of words, and finally, the construction of sentences. Infants begin to assimilate sounds even in the womb. Up to 12 months, they are able to identify all the sounds that a human vocal apparatus can produce. After that, humans become less and less able to distinguish with precision certain sounds that their native language does not use.

He therefore learns his mother tongue unconsciously. This is not the case for a second language, which one chooses to teach consciously. In this case, a conscious effort is required, requiring the use of the three tips above to achieve success!

We would certainly not recommend a language stay or language immersion courses , or for those finishing secondary school, a Gap Year .
